BSI People Outplacement Process
Gold and Silver Programs
Stage One: Briefing Session
Before a company announces any staff cuts, we work with the company to devise an appropriate strategy and timetable for implementation of retrenchments.
Stage Two: Notifying Retrenched Staff
BSI People can help a client manage the communication of the redundancy message to staff to whatever level is required by the client.
Stage Three: Group Workshop
All staff that enrol in the Silver or Gold programs are invited to attend the BSI People outplacement/career management workshop. This is one day in duration and ideally comprises 10-15 staff, to encourage shared communication and participation. The workshop can be held in any location. In the workshop, the following advice and support is provided under the following headings:
1. Review: From now to where?
2. Analysis: Life Style & Career Options
3. Self Promotion and Communicating to the Market
4. Winning the Job: Interview Prep & Techniques, FAQs, Etiquette
5. Being Effective: Time Management
6. Understanding and Managing Stress
7. Self Initiated Direction and Value Adding Activities
All workshop participants receive a detailed workbook that covers the day’s activities and lists useful tips, phone numbers, websites and advice to which they can refer as ongoing support.
Stage Four: One-On-One Sessions
Once the participants have completed the workshop, they can seek further support and assistance in achieving their goals. This support is across three areas:
a. Case Management
Once enrolled in our Silver or Gold programs, a Case Manager is appointed to help manage the challenges the retrenched employee might face. All Case Managers are Registered Organisational Psychologists who are experienced in assisting the individual to develop their coping skills and helping them re-focus on the task at hand.
Together, they set realistic goals and design practical action plans. A psychometric analysis is undertaken, with a report produced for the individual that outlines intellectual ability, their approach to work, and their interpersonal skills. There is also advice provided as to how best to utilise their strengths and work on their weaknesses. We also apply a career interest inventory to help identify areas of interest that may have not previously been considered.
The individual’s resume is reviewed and cover letters targeted at specific roles or industries are designed. Each individual is taught interview techniques which are honed via role-plays.
Typically, one-on-one sessions run for about one hour. The retrenched employees can schedule as many of these sessions as they require over the six-week or twelve-week period, depending on the program for which they are enrolled.
b. Placement Management
The retrenched individual is then referred to an experienced industry recruitment consultant to develop a placement management strategy. They are also immediately introduced to other recruitment agencies - we encourage strong networking.
c. Financial Management
When an employee is made redundant, one of the largest stress factors is how best to manage finances. To assist in this regard, we provide financial management advice and support with a list of Licensed Financial Advisors provided. As part of our Silver and Gold programs, the outplaced individual may visit their chosen Advisor for a one-hour session.
Stage Five: On-going Support
The BSI People Case Manager provides free email and phone support for a six-week or twelve-week period, depending on the level of program selected. Additional one-on-one support (beyond the free email and phone support), is available at a monthly fee.
